BRC Global Standard for Food Safety is the flagship Standard of BRC organization which relates to food safety management.
BRC stands for British Retail Consortium. BRC is the lead trade organization that represents a wide range of retailers, from large chains and department stores to independent retailers offering a variety of products, both in city centers, outside or in rural or virtual stores.
In 1998, responding to the needs of the sector, the British Retail Consortium has developed and launched the BRC Food Technical Standard used to evaluate manufacturers of retailers own brands. Their goal is to support retailers and brand owners in the defense of "due diligence" if forced to be accountable to the court at the request of law enforcement. Accordingly to European food law, retailers and brand owners bear the legal responsibility for their brands.
